WILD WEST ECO RESULTS
                                                                                                                     Race Report

Course

Brutal & beautiful terrain, cowboy hats, bike monsters, bonking, crazy river bank hauls, 95 degree temps/20 mph winds,  canoeing the Smokey, cotton-eyed Joe, corn
fields, cat tails, snakes, waterfalls, cliffs,  back forty round up, hired hand challenges , saddles, cornfields, haylofts, ropes, dead bulls, bullsh _ _, and so much more.

Teams
Rescheduling the race from May 1st to Aug 28th meant cancellation for many teams.   But the ones that did show up demonstrated remarkable GRIT and probably
earned an honorary place in the Cowboy Hall of Fame.

The 50 mile teams hung close for most of the race, speeding up the pace and adding to the intensity.  It was a nail biter until the end.  The back forty was supposed to
separate the boys from the men, but mostly it proved to be one of those redefined limit moments (in between cussing the race director).

The 25 mile teams also proved to be tougher than nails.   FYI, you 25ers out there . . . top finishing times of 7 plus hours means your course was as grueling as most 50
mile races.  Even though I offered up lots of choices for “short coursing” yourselves to avoid some discomfort if desired—the whole darn group was going after that clean
sweep.  I saw you all out there and can honestly say I’m sure it was that same kind of gumption that got the West settled in the first place.

Several teams had some racers get thrown hard and I waited to for the call to send in the clowns.  It never came.  Just like real cowboys/girls, they bit their lip, wiped off
the blood/sweat and tears and just got back in the saddle to keep on riding hard.
My hats off to all you racers--I’d lend you my horse and share my whiskey with you any day.

Volunteers
Speaking of GRIT, you just don’t find ordinary folks made like these people any more:  Tim and Tammy, Melissa, Jill, Jannie, Samantha, Lisa and Kyle.  Thanks for giving
up your day for this.  I’m surprised you don’t question me more before agreeing.  I hope you know what a difference you make out there!  And then there’s our offspring
and friend’s offspring to thank:  Austin, Emily, DJ, Tommy, Jeremy, McKenzie, Daniel, Bri,  Geo and Peter.  Not only are you helping out, you get to be around the most
amazing group of adults all day long . . . hope this helps you later on to focus on the positive and what IS possible and not to count yourself short on choices in life.

Munson Angus Farms
Thank you Deanna and Chuck Munson for opening your barns, your home and your land to us.   Your ground was some of the most demanding/beautiful terrain yet,
plus you are wonderful hosts!  And then to top it all off, FRESH Angus burgers, delicious baked beans /coleslaw and the biggest servings of homemade ice cream I’ve
ever seen!  I know the racers weren’t even aware that you made hot coffee, ice cold lemonade and tea out of the goodness of your heart because you were so
impressed with what they were doing.  You went out of your way and I sincerely appreciate it!

Eco Challenge
Many teams participated in the pre race Eco Challenge and got their $20 team discount.  It was great to hear about all the projects they worked on and I will definitely
continue the Eco Challenge discount in all adventure races to come.
